When patients and visitors arrive at your facility, they take notice of everything they experience. They note how they are greeted, the friendliness of your staff and the condition of your facility from the moment they walk through your main entrance doors. Their opinion of your facility takes into account all the things they see, hear, feel and even what they smell in each part of your building they visit.
It’s important to keep in mind that this means patient opinions also are influenced by negative experiences, such as being exposed to strong, lingering malodors.
What causes malodors in hospital settings?
There are many ways malodors could develop in your acute care facility. Strongly scented food being cooked in the cafeteria or by staff in the breakroom microwave, smelly items being discarded in trash or in the laundry bins or spills on floors or other surfaces can all be culprits for harboring unpleasant odors. Sometimes even patients themselves may develop malodors: an odor may emit from patients suffering from serious ailments such as c-diff or necrosis. Other times, patients can simply develop a bit of a malodor during times when it is difficult or painful for them to fully bathe and shower.
How do traditional air fresheners treat malodors?
Traditional spray air fresheners are aerosols carrying an artificial fragrance that is released into the air to temporarily cover unpleasant foul odors. Unfortunately, these fragrances eventually dissolve and evaporate from the air, allowing the unpleasant odors to return. Sometimes the spray fresheners don’t cover the bad odors in the air at all, instead the only attempt to overpower the unpleasant fragrance with another, stronger scent.
Why is HYscent® a better choice when compared to traditional air fresheners?
Odor eliminators are designed to reach deep down into core of the issue to treat and neutralize malodors at the source, permanently removing the scent from the room. Once the malodor is broken down and removed at the molecular level, many odor eliminators then offer a lighter, pleasant fragrance.
HYscent® is scientifically designed and tested to effectively counteract unpleasant odors, actually neutralizing malodors rather than simply masking them. Long after you can no longer smell the fragrance HYscent® continues to be effective and counteract malodors.
Is HYscent® environmentally-friendly and safe for at-risk hospital patients?
Patients arrive to your facility in need of care, which often leaves them feeling vulnerable. Patients must feel safe in order to be comfortable in your acute care facility. Heavy aerosol sprays containing fragrances created in a laboratory can be equally unpleasant when compared to the malodor they are meant to hide and may even be an irritant to patients who have allergies or chronic respiratory conditions. Some air freshener spray may even pollute your facility’s indoor air with volatile organic compounds (VOCs), including those that classified as toxic or hazardous by federal law.
HYscent® fragrances are created with the purest essential and fragrance oils to produce superior scents that your patients will appreciate. The essential oils used are extracted from the vital essence of aromatic plants such as flowers, fruits, sap, seeds bark, leaves, and roots. Not only are these fragrances less likely to irritate or harm your patients, the right fragrances will help your team create a positive and therapeutic atmosphere, which will have a favorable impact on a person's mood and their perception of the care you have provided them.
